Do you prefer to read a story in the past tense or present (opinion question) and can you critique my writing?

Present tense, it seems more relevant somehow and adds a touch of urgency and interest. Past tense sort of dilutes the text because when something has already happened it seems less important. I like the beginning of your story, it maintains your interest. :)
