What type of wasp/bee/horntet ?

ok so back in brasi'lia, Brazil there was this really huge wasp thing that used to fly around my granpas farm, once the fat one stung the that used to work there and the stinger was huge and hes hand was fully swallon, there was the more thin long wasp, like the giant hornet but black and bigger) and the fat one which is the more usual one but a bit smaller. anyone know what it is? or is it an unkown bug?
